+easy breezy beautiful

After being assigned a random Pittsburgh neighborhood, we were asked to meticulously research our areas and propose changes to improve the community. I was assigned Point Breeze, a neighborhood so perfect, it was the inspiration for the TV show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. How do you improve on a place that is already without fault? My book introduces Point Breeze as the model community, and proposes changes that can help Point Breeze improve it's lesser surroundings.

+go!

GO! is an installation meant to encourage people of all ages to go outside and play. Today, so many people are confined to the indoors and studies have proven that regular contact with the outdoors can have both positive mental and physical effects. The Go! installation was exhibited at Grow Pittsburgh.

+hershey internship

+typographic posters

The following collection of posters are the products of my first formal class in typography.

+a mile with miles

The objective of this project was to create a print and kinetic piece based on a piece of music. I chose an improv piece by Miles Davis and utilized his music and an excerpt from his autobiography to convey his tumultuous life and to reveal a lesser-known side of the legend.

+color exercises

Using photographs of architecture our assignment for these studies were to use color contrast techniques and type to assimilate and differentitate letterforms with the architecture. The motion piece is based off of a typographic "face" created from ten letterforms.

+beetle factory

The Beetle Factory was a collaborative systems project with the Carnegie Natural History Museum to design an exhibit that educates children about the diversity of beetles. In the exhibit, the children collect tokens to "adapt" their paper beetle to. The beetle is then colored, cut out, folded, and hung on a large display to celebrate the diversity of the species.
